During an emergency:
In the event of an emergency, notification will include use of:
- The outdoor sirens of the LU Emergency Warning System
- Announcement on the portal pages of the www.liberty.edu website
- Mass email to all Liberty University email addresses
- Announcement on WRVL radio 88.3 FM
Updates about the status of a campus emergency will be posted on this page. Information will also be available by calling
(434) 582-7606 or 1-800-628-7972.
A second notice will be distributed when safety has been restored.
Emergency Notification System
On March 16, 2009, Liberty University went live with the Campus Alerting System. Since that time, only two alerts have been issued, one a severe weather alert and the other an emergency road closure.
The Liberty University Police Department would like to remind and encourage all students, staff and faculty to take advantage of the Smart Message Alerts, and sign up for this free service at https://liberty.smartmsg.com/.
Your Liberty user ID and password will give you access to the site. Click on the DEVICE MANAGER icon to enter information for the communications device you wish to receive notifications on.
Next, click on the ALERT MANAGER icon to select which specific alert notifications you wish to receive such as Emergency Road Closures, Fires, School Closings and Severe Weather. We strongly encourage you to sign up for each one. If you do not add other notifications, [Immediate Life Threat Situations] is the only one you will be signed up for.
